Rainy Day Weekend Going-ons
Posted by sleepycathollow on 27 May 2008
Well…it rained most of the weekend. So I spent it planting the last of my garden and finding homes for some Nebraska plants in my yard. Hit a few estate sales and thrift stores. And snuggled under the quilts that I threw into the dryer to warm up.
My mom dug up two of grandma’s peonies (Lynch, NE) from her yard that I replanted in my front yard. She also gave me some hostas from O’Neil, NE…planted them under the cedar tree near the house…which is really the only shady spot in the whole yard! Had to buy some pepper plants as my seeds didn’t come up.
Also bought a six-pack of strawberries.
Yesterday my husband and I took the hike that I took on my photography field trip ~ Deadman’s Creek trail on the south end of Washoe Valley. Luckily it didn’t rain while we were out there. A new crop of wildflowers were blooming ~ the Phlox were all gone as were the Desert Peach. In their place were Wild Onions and Mule Ears. Ohhh…and I’d say in a couple of days or maybe this weekend the Wild Roses will be blooming like crazy on the trail!!! And if I remember right, it was a Red-Tailed Hawk that had a nest near the group-use picnic area at Washoe Lake State Park ~ there are two young’uns in the nest now. One is definitely getting most of the food, I hope the little guy makes it…he or she is a cutie. Those stupid Bullock’s Orioles still would let me take their picture.

Picked up a few books from the yard and estate sales ~

Sara Midda’s
In & Out of the Garden
Juliette Clarke’sAn Illustrated Gardener’s Notebook
Hugh Noonan & Emery Tang’s Listen, The Clams are Talking
Jean Marzolla’sI Spy Spooky Night
Bill Engvall’sJust a Guy
Cornelia Funke’sThe Thief Lord
Mike Molloy’sThe Witch Trade
Jerry Baker’sPerfect Perennials
Jerry Baker’sOddball Ointments, Powerful Potions & Folk Remedies
At the estate sale I also found two brand new soaker hoses for $1 each, a pair of Indiana Carnival glass (blue grape) candle holders for .25 cents each, and a Ridgid Pipe Cutter in the box for a price I’d rather not say…it would make a guy faint if I posted the low price. ROFL!
Below is a very pretty wall of clematis at my in-law’s house ~
